The Shakti Caravan "Dancing for Change" Workshop Open Dance Workshop and Information Session

Teacher Bio:

Miranda is a professional dancer and teaching specialist from New York. She has trained since age 4 with the internationally acclaimed world and folk dance company, The Vanaver Caravan. She is a co-founder and program director of Shakti Caravan, Udaipur along with colleague and mentor, Joel Hanna. In 2012, Miranda directed the first Shakti Caravan pilot program, where she began training the now esteemed choreographer, Bharat Verma, in body percussion (introducing him to the art form that is now his unique expertise). Since then, Miranda has been an active force in making sure Shakti Caravan programming reaches as many communities as possible in Udaipur and surrounding regions of Rajasthan.

What to expect in this workshop:

This workshop is just a small teaser of what is to come in the full  three week Shakti Caravan "Dancing for Change" program at Beawar University, which will be led by Joel Hanna (with guest teachers such as Bharat Verma and Renshi Raj Menaria).

This Saturday, April 20th from 10am-12pm,  Miranda will lead an open dance workshop and information session at Beawar University/Vardhman Girls' College. Students will sample a variety of global dance forms, which focus on the fluid movements of water and our relationship to nature and our own bodies. Saturday's dance forms include Hawaiian Ancient Hula, Modern Dance, Israeli Folk Dance, and West African Dance. Miranda will include a series of unique and fun exercises and games to get everyone feeling comfortable, confident, connected, energized, and inspired.  The information session to follow will include video footage and presentation of Joel Hanna's work, along with a meet and greet, and Q&A with Miranda and Udaipur-based Shakti Caravan co-founders, Rita Dixit-Kubiak, David Kubiak, and Premilla Dixit-Nag.

Who is this workshop for?

Ages 15+. Whether you are a talented dancer/performer with aspirations to build a big career out of dance, or you are simply looking to try something new and deepen your relationship with your own body, Shakti Caravan's dance and movement workshops will give you an unforgettable—perhaps even life-changing—experience. Come learn more about this unique opportunity on Saturday.
